Aren’t We Yet Tired of the Feds Being Totally Wrong – Or Lying to Us?

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Almost Up There with
the First Amendment

Gassy assertions by government officials are, of course, a given. Very few groups of people are more wrong, more consistently – yet with more confidence – than the people who lord over us.

There are only two possible explanations. They are either really, really ill informed and naive. Or they know they’re wrong – and they are each respectively lying both of their faces off.

Let’s revisit just a few.

Soviet Union 2.0 – The Environmental Protection Agency

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Green Is the New Red

Former President Richard Nixon is an ancestral RINO – Republican In Name Only. The wobbly GOP wing that insists on delivering us Diet Democrat policies.

So it was in 1970 when President Nixon signed an executive order creating the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Get that? A unilateral fiat – how very pre-Barack Obama of him.

Was there a resounding clamor for an EPA? Certainly not from Republicans. And not from Democrats – else Nixon could have (should have) gone to the bi-cameral-Democrat-majority Congress for legislation. (Actually, to expand the federal government’s purview to this massive degree would have – should have – required a Constitutional amendment.)

Who wanted an EPA? The far Left Watermelons – who are green on the outside, red on the in.

Red – as in Communist. The first Earth Day was April 22, 1970 – which happens to be Vladimir Lenin’s birthday. What a phenomenal coincidence.

Three months after, Nixon signed the order creating the EPA. More

After the Power Grabs: Gov Doesn’t Care What Happens to Us – It’s On to the Next Grabs

Now With the Convenient
Grab Applicator

How many times has government royally messed up something? And not fired anyone? Or done anything that remotely resembles improving their performance?

Oh so very often. In part because they don’t care – once they have the power, they don’t care what happens to us. In part because they are too busy planning their next grabs.

A pristine example?

The OPM Breach Is a Catastrophe

First the government must own up to its failure. Then the feds should follow this plan to fix it.

Good luck with that.

With Just About All Things Government, Less is More – and Better

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

It Translates Well

Government is just another organism. Just like any other other organism, its first priority is self-preservation. Its second – is to grow. The most it possibly can. It wants to be bigger, do more – control more.

There are more than four million humans who work in just the federal government. Most of them see preserving and growing government as in their interest. And see those who want Less Government as the enemy.

(As just one recent example, see: the Internal Revenue Service [IRS] assaults on conservative non-profit groups.)

The allure of the More Government mantra is strong – too strong for most of the humans who join the Borg. Even for many of the allegedly Less Government Republican Party – they too too often succumb to More Government’s siren song.

So it sadly is with Virginia Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte – and his attempts at patent “reform.” His alleged “fix” – the Innovation Act – is a enormous government hammer. Created to swat – a gnat. More

Net Neutrality Hits – The Media Misses, Badly

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Have A Whole Lot More Pablum

As we’ve often discussed, the Tech Media is just as hopelessly Leftist and lost as the broader Jurassic Press. They are both echo chambers – talking points and terrible ideas bounce with great rapidity around their tiny little worlds. They are the Bubble Boys (and Girls) of news.

When a Tech Media story crosses over to the broader Jurassic Press – their ridiculous Leftist repetitiveness is truly comical. And highly disquieting.

On Friday, President Barack Obama’s huge Internet Network Neutrality power grab officially went into effect. A crossover story – with predictable, pathetic Press results.

Crony Socialism: Governments All Over the World Are Messing Up a Free Trade Market

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

The Government Subsidies Pile Up – And So Do the Products Subsidized

To quote the late, inordinately great Ronald Reagan, “Government is not the solution to our problem – government is the problem.”

To quote the White Stripes, “I said it once before but it bears repeating”:

Trade Wars” actually aren’t about trade — they are about government trade policy.

If peoples are trading freely, there isn’t a “War” – there’s commerce. The “Wars” only happen when governments get involved, placing tariffs, regulations and subsidies in the way of the flow.

It becomes a regulatory arms race. A government imposes another subsidy or tax. So several others in response impose new subsidies and taxes of their own. Lather, rinse, repeat.

‘Trust Us – We’re the Government’ Isn’t the Best Justification for These Huge New Power Grabs

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

If At This Point You Still Do – It’s More Than a Little Disturbing

We are deep into Year Seven of the Barack Obama Administration. It has not been a great time in the history of government transparency and accountability.

He at the outset sounded good.

We have to use technology to open up our democracy. Its no coincidence that one of the most secretive administrations in our history has favored special interests and pursued policies that could not stand up to the sunlight.

Then so quickly disintegrated.

Free Trade? Yes. Anti-Constitution, Anti-Transparency TPA/TPP? Definitely No

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

It’s the Constitutional Thing to Not Do

Flying under the free trade flag, many in DC are pushing the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and fast-track Trade Promotion Authority (TPA).

Speaker John Boehner: More Trade = More American Jobs

(Senate Majority Leader Mitch) McConnell Urges Cooperation on Trade Legislation

Is the TPP actually free trade? Well, we don’t know – it’s shrouded in lock-down, totalitarian secrecy.

Congress Can – and Should – Declassify the TPP

One of the most controversial aspects of the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is the fact that the Obama administration has tried to impose a public blockade on the text of the draft agreement….

Goldilocks and the Four Bills – In Washington D.C., In Search of ‘Just Right’

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

In Washington, Sometimes There Can Actually Be a Happy Ending

We (almost) all know the fairy tale.

Goldilocks breaks into the Three Bears’ house. She tries their food and their furniture. Some were too hot and too hard – some too cold and too soft. She was on a mission of sorts – looking for the things that were “Just right.”

This is Washington D.C. – just as anti-Reality as any fairy tale. But with an incessantly overreaching, $4-trillion-a-year government – rarely are things too soft.

Government is a huge, unwieldy hammer – it over-slams just about everything at which it takes aim. Goldilocks’ perpetual assessment – “Too hard.”

But occasionally – and it’s very occasional – government gets it right.

There are currently four patent “reform” bills being considered by Congress. Patents are a way innovators protect their ideas – which is how we as a society protect our continued economic viability. If people who invent cool stuff can’t protect their cool stuff from thieves – they’ll stop inventing cool stuff. More

Free Trade: Less Government Everywhere Means Cheaper Stuff Here (and Everywhere)

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Government(s)
Yet Again in the Way

More government means more expensive everything. Every second and penny spent paying government taxes and complying with government regulations – raises the prices of the goods and services people proffer.

And more government makes it more difficult to innovate – to create and improve goods and services. Innovation is delayed or outright prevented – because the time and money wasted on government could be much better spent developing the next great things.

More government also inflates the prices of everything trade. It ain’t free trade – if governments are involved.

Trade Wars” actually aren’t about trade – they are about government trade policy.

If peoples are trading freely, there isn’t a “War” – there’s commerce. The “Wars” only happen when governments get involved – placing tariffs, regulations and subsidies in the way of the flow.

It becomes a regulatory arms race. A government imposes another subsidy or tax. So several others in response impose new subsidies and taxes of their own. Lather, rinse, repeat.
