Congress Should Impeach EPA Head Gina McCarthy – And Then a Whole Bunch of Other Bureaucrats

Tired of Being Flounder-ed

The national Republican Party is currently in the midst of a slow-motion train wreck. Their presidential primary has amply demonstrated their Base’s profound disaffection. You can call it anger, you can call it delusion – you can call it a tuna fish sandwich. But when 70+% of your voters don’t like anyone having anything to do with anything you’ve been doing – you absolutely call it a problem.

And when it’s this big, it’s a problem for the Party – not their voters. There’s an old banking joke: If someone owes the bank $10,000 – that someone has a problem. But if someone owes the bank $10 million – the bank has a problem. 70+% is the bank having a problem.

The Party remains somewhere in Egypt – along the banks of Denial. It likes to dismiss these people with incredibly flattering terms like “Crazies.” And elected officials these people actually like with terms of endearment like “Jackass.” Because you always go far when insulting the majority of your voters.

Speaker John Boehner is turning in his gavel and leaving Congress – apparently because everyone thinks he’s done a phenomenal job. And on his way out the door he is denouncing his voters for having “unrealistic expectations.” He would know – they have them in large part because his Party and their campaign minions set them every election cycle when they’re lying to get votes. DC’s Latest Self-Inflicted ‘Crisis’ – We Run Out of Budget on October 1

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

For DC – Full Speed Ahead Yet Again

Washington, D.C. is a dysfunctional mess. Just about nothing gets done unless it absolutely has to get done. And when things do get done – they are just about always horrible. Bigger and bigger government, over and over again, as far as the eye can see.

For instance, DC hasn’t passed an actual budget through the actual process since 2009 – the year of the $878 billion alleged “Stimulus.” DC has ever since set its spending via Continuing Resolutions (CRs) – which means with the alleged “Stimulus” built in to the baseline. Meaning we’ve now had an additional $5+ trillion in “Stimulus” thrown down the rat hole – above and beyond the original “Stimulus” and the already heinous 2009 pre-“Stimulus” budget level.   Wonder why we have in that time added $8+-trillion-and-counting to the national debt – despite repeated record-setting tax takes? This is largely why.

This all-encompassing DC disarray is in part created by Democrat President Barack Obama. Who is a strident, nightmare Leftist – with no regard for the Constitution or its limits and processes. He doesn’t budge an inch. On anything. Ever. And his Democrats controlled the Senate all the way through until January. They are all big fans of the built-in-“Stimulus” CRs – so they for years helped blow up the budget process. More

Typical DC: Patent Lawsuit ‘Reform’ Will Lead to Many, MANY More Lawsuits

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

It’s Always Opposite Day in DC

Under consideration in Washington, D.C. is legislation that will fundamentally transform our patent system. It will render this Constitutionally protected intellectual property product – dramatically less protected. The bills to which I refer are the Innovation Act (House) and the Patent Act (Senate). There are many, many reasons to oppose them.

The reason given for why this legislation is allegedly necessary is to undo the “patent troll.” Their definition: Patent “trolls” are abusing ridiculously broad patents to shotgun lawsuit letters all over the place. Demanding money for the use of their ridiculous patents – or they’ll sue. Our definition: Their definition misses several important things. Let’s look at but a few.

If a patent is ridiculously broad – but approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) – it’s a legal patent. On which lawsuits can be based. Undermining patent protection in response to this is like responding to a guy robbing stores by forcing store owners to remove the locks from their doors. The problem is government. Fix how the government approves patents – and craft a better way to review the ridiculous patents in circulation.

Because patent “trolls” are suing, this terrible legislation is being pitched as “lawsuit reform.” (At least) two problems here. One: Many, many legitimate patent holders – in possession of legitimate, rightly-approved patents – have to sue to protect their property from thieves. Legislation delineating between these two groups – the legit patent holders and the “trolls” – is micro-surgery. Government doesn’t do micro-surgery – it slams with hammers. In trying to address the “troll” subset, DC is poised to bludgeon the entire patent system. More

President Obama Further Widens the Chasm Between DC and America

The Capital Beltway

Over the weekend the Gallup polling company delivered us their latest: “75% in U.S. See Widespread Government Corruption – This figure is up from two in three in 2007 (67%) and 2009 (66%).”

That already-incredibly high 2009 number likely reflects the horrendous government bailout era. When Americans saw DC in anti-capitalism-fashion throw over a trillion dollars at a handful of companies – which were led by people who had donated tens of millions of dollars to government officials. When contribution-recipient outgoing-Republican-president George W. Bush ludicrously said “I’ve abandoned free market principles to save the free market system.” The American people knew just how absurd all of that was. They also knew that government caused the crash – but government’s alleged “solutiondid nothing to address that cause.

The Gallup poll’s rise to 3/4 from 2/3 reflects the ongoing bailout fraud under the auspices of the successor-president – Democrat Barack Obama. Americans saw General Motors (GM) transmogrify into Government Motors. They saw much of the $83 billion in GM bailout money go to the Democrat uber-donor United Auto Workers (UAW) union – to be spent on subsequent Democrat campaigns. A bailout on which President Obama said we’d make money – but on which we lost over $70 billion.

The Gallup poll’s rise also reflects the Age of “Stimulus.” When in 2009 DC shoveled out the door an additional $787 billion – which Americans know we don’t have. Much of which went to Democrat donors, too. $80 billion of it went to “green” “energy” – which Americans know is neither green nor energy. 80% of that went to Democrat donors. More

Trump Shouldn’t Blame Oreos – It’s Governments’ and Unions’ Fault

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Don’t Hate – Deregulate

The Donald Trump presidential phenomenon rolls on. Higher and higher his primary polls climb.   He’s caught the irretrievably corrupt Hillary Clinton in a prospective general election matchup.

The DC Establishment – made up of both Democrats and Republicans – for decades ignored our immigration laws. And dismissed and impugned, misunderstood or altogether missed the growing fervor for someone who would simply enforce our laws – and not slander those who want them enforced. Trump correctly identified all of this – and embraced it.

How high and far can Trump go? Where he stops – no one yet knows. We do know that Trump’s rocket ride – fueled largely by immigration policy – misfires at least a bit on trade policy. Behold the Case of the Moving Oreo Cookie.

Oreos have been for years made in Chicago, Illinois (and several other American cities). Mondelez International, Inc. – the company that delivers us the chocolatey, spherical goodness – announced they would make their next wave of Oreo manufacturing investment not in Chicago, but in Mexico. This move will reduce – not end – Chicago’s role in production. Jobs in the Windy City will be halved – from 1,200 to 600. (Other cities will continue their current roles.)

Trump, sadly, possesses a bit of a protectionist streak. He immediately vowed to stop eating Oreos – a protest diet, of sorts. But Team Oreo is only doing what any rational person – or gaggle of rational people who decide to incorporate – do when faced with the wide array of impediments job creators face here in the United States. Governments and unions are overwhelmingly antagonistic to domestic economic growth. More

Google – the Funding Father of Net Neutrality – Now Plotting to Violate Net Neutrality

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Beware the Google Web

Being Leftist means never having to say you’re sorry. Being a huge Barack Obama-Democrat donor doesn’t hurt either. Being incredibly generous in support of Leftism also allows you to enact incredibly anti-free market, anti-Reality policies that are a huge boon to you – at the exorbitant expense of the private sector players who made your successes possible.

So it is with Google’s Network Neutrality assault on the nation’s Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Our ISPs have in the last two decades invested $1.2 trillion in broadband buildout. Thereby taking us from pathetic 28K dialup to rocket-ship wired and wireless speeds. Because of these ISPs, the Internet has become the omni-directional-cornucopia, free speech-free market Xanadu we all know and love. Never in the history of human endeavor has anything grown so huge, so fast. You would never, ever have heard of companies like Facebook, Netflix or Google had not the ISPs done what they did – and of course continue to do. Because these websites chew up lots and LOTS of bandwidth. And the ISPs made that monster bandwidth not only available – but nigh omnipresent.

Video is far and away the biggest bandwidth hog item – nothing else is close. The ISPs turned online streaming video from a pipe dream into a daily fixture – and thereby created a LOT of ancillary millionaires and billionaires. Netflix was a going-out-of-business snail mail DVD delivery company – until the ISPs rescued them from oblivion by allowing them to become the monster streaming video company they are today. These ISP speed increases then allowed for the promulgation of similar services – like Hulu, Roku and Amazon Prime. And lest we forget, godfather online video king YouTube – owned by Google. More

Beware D.C. ‘Comprehensive’ ‘Reform’

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

True – Then and Now

The entirety of the United States is now a federal disaster area – rendered thus by Washington, D.C. Unlike areas hit by hurricanes, tornadoes and other acts of God – our cataclysm is entirely man-made. Decades of anti-Reality policies have left our nation an uber-addled mess.

The components of why are myriad. Too much spending, too much debt, too much and too many taxes, too many (unilateral) regulations, and on, and on, and….

Let us look more deeply at another – terrible legislation. When D.C. mentions a new bill – and starts throwing around words like “omnibus,” “comprehensive” and “reform” – batten down the hatches.

An “omnibus” is a grossly over-large spending bill which serves as a catch-all for ridiculous waste, fraud and abuse – past, present and future. Its enormity allows for tens of thousands of stupid expenditures to be tucked into its fatty, flabby folds. The 2015 “CROmnibus” was a D.C. Dumb twofer – a hastily passed, 1,695-page Continuing Resolution (CR)-Omnibus combo that continued our absurd spending trajectory – without any of the appropriations-process analysis, discussion and debate. The EPA Assaults the Private Sector – and the Environment

Seton Motley | Less Government | Less Government.org

‘Cheers’ from the EPA

There are few things more dangerous to private enterprise than government bureaucrats with time on their hands. And since most bureaucrats have no legitimate reason for being – they have lots and lots of time on their hands.

In 2009, the federal government had at least 2,748,978 employees – and 97.6% of civilian federal employees were in the executive branch (and do you think that tally has ticked up a bit during the Barack Obama Administration?) These are the departments, agencies, commissions and boards populated by people who do very little but promulgate and impose regulations – and enforce them.

But government doesn’t even enforce their own rules well. Because in addition to being boorish and overbearing, unilateral and tyrannical – government is unavoidably, inherently incompetent. Because of (at least) two immutable rules of human nature – the Wallet Rule and the Yellow Pages Rule.

The Wallet Rule: “You go out on a Friday night with your wallet. You go out the following Friday night with my wallet. On which Friday night are you going to have more fun?” Obviously you will have more fun with my wallet than yours – because at the end of the revelry you care what your wallet looks like. My wallet? You don’t care quite so much. Government is always using other peoples’ wallets – and the Friday night party never, ever ends. More

Assault by Government: Draining the Capital Pool

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Diamond Dave for Treasury Secretary

David Lee Roth – the original lead singer of mega-rock group Van Halen – gave us an excellent assessment of the value of coin: “Money can’t buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.”

What this amusingly quantifies is that money is a vital component of any and everything we do. Certainly for how we (allegedly – used to) organize our economy. “Capital” is the fundamental element of capital-ism. It is the engine that drives our yachts – right up alongside the happiness we all pursue.

Those opposed to capitalism understand this. Thus they look to drain the private capital pool – by any means necessary. They know every penny spent on government is a penny not much better used making everything better, faster and cheaper – and our lives simply better and better. And they know their prolonged, multiplicative attacks will ultimately bring down their capitalism bete noire.

Taxes are the overt way government removes capital. The more it takes – the less we all have to do all of the things that make capitalism work. The Barack Obama Administration has been repeatedly setting records for tax money taken. The federal take in 2015 is projected to be yet another record – $3.2 trillion. The entire economy – the combined productivity of every single man, woman and child – is $17.4 trillion. The Feds are taking nearly 20% of everything we make – and just about every Democrat says that isn’t nearly enough. More
