Righting Another Obama Wrong: Re-Protecting Intellectual Property

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

A Very Welcome Change of Direction

The Barack Obama Administration was absolutely awful on intellectual property (IP).

Obama, Inc. set very many arms of the federal Leviathan to actively attacking IP protections.

Obama, Inc. sicced on IP the Department of Justice (DoJ) and its Federal Trade Commission (FTC). IP is a Constitutionally protected concept – protected in practice by the Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)’s issuance of patents, trademarks and copyrights. These IP protections grant their holders exclusive use of the ideas behind them.

The Obama FTC’s antitrust division ignored the Constitution and its own USPTO – and sued the government-issued IP protections…for being exclusively used by the government-issued IP-protections-holders.

With Congress, Obama, Inc. created within the USPTO the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Which turned the USPTO’s mission on its head – from an agency issuing patents…to one destroying them. More

President Trump’s War – On Government’s War on America

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Trump’s Gotten to Cutting

United States’ governments at all levels have for decades been at war with America and Americans.

Their weapons of choice – have been a ceaseless fusillade of laws and regulations. Aimed not to benefit We the People – but directly at us. We have been carpet-bombed with red tape – to ensnare and shackle and limit us.

The damage to our economy has been devastating. Our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth has waned inexorably for decades. Because as government grows – the private sector shrinks.

Our entire economy – the amount of money created by every single man, woman and child in America’s 300+ million populace – is $18 trillion. The cost of compliance with JUST federal regulations – is $2 trillion. Think that massive government imposition on our economy helps – or hurts?

And no President in our history was more active in using government against us – than President Barack Obama. Obama ramped up government regulatory extrusions to levels never before seen. Obama added more than 21,000 new regulations – all by his onesies.

Obama directly targeted for destruction certain sectors of Americans. For instance, he promised to bankrupt the coal industry – then he had his government just about do it.

Obama Administration regulations killed more than 125,000 coal sector jobs. And cost our economy more than $650 billion directly – and exponentially more indirectly, as energy prices soared as the coal sector crumbled. More

Net Neutrality: The Big Power Grab Lie the Left-Media Is Telling You

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

The Left-Media Never Goes Small

We addressed this to some degree last week. But the Left-Media’s lying has been demonstrably worse in the week since – a feat I didn’t then fathom as possible.

The issue at hand is Network Neutrality.

When birthed in 2002 by Leftist college professor Tim Wu, Net Neutrality was just four innocuous things:

  • Consumers are entitled to access the lawful Internet content of their choice.
  • Consumers are entitled to run applications and services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement.
  • Consumers are entitled to connect their choice of legal devices that do not harm the network.
  • Consumers are entitled to competition among network providers, application and service providers, and content providers.

But as with oh-so-many things devised by the Left, Net Neutrality sounds good – but isn’t. It is, in fact, a terrible idea – for a whole host of reasons. More

There Already Is Massive Media Consolidation: Ideological

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Ideological – Not Numerical

The Left is incessantly freaking about all sorts of things – about which very little freaking is actually necessary.

The Media is – by-and-large – the Left’s megaphone. About whatever the Left is freaking – you’ll find the Media freaking. Only louder, with many, MANY more outlets with which to amplify the freaking.

The advent of the Internet – has exponentially increased the number of outlets through which the Media can freak. For instance: If you miss a particular MSNBC on-air freakout – fear not, on the Web it shall hang forever, just a couple of mouse clicks away.

And nigh every outlet generates all sorts of Web-only content – video, audio and written. For even more additional avenues for freaking.

Each and every media outlet – is a multi-platform content delivery corporation. More

Coalition Letter: We Need Free Trade – From Everyone Trading, Not Just US

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

The Signatories

Dear Congressman:

One of the biggest fears facing low-income families and seniors living on a fixed income is the rising price of food. To the extent that government policy can contribute to stable commodity prices, leading to stability in food prices, we believe it would benefit all Americans.

It is for this reason that we, the undersigned, are urging you to support House Concurrent Resolution 40, authored by Representative Ted Yoho, which would restore free market competition in the global trade of sugar.

Global trading pressures make sugar one of the most volatile commodities in the world. Much of this volatility is the result of government subsidies to growers in other nations, which grossly distort the market. It is these market distortions that make the price of sugar and hundreds of other foods made with it unpredictable. H. Con. Res. 40 brings stability to the market and the prices paid for groceries on every aisle in the supermarket.

Perhaps better known as the “Zero-for-Zero” policy, Rep. Yoho’s resolution identifies subsidies as the primary problem in maintaining stability in the price of sugar and other food products made with it. This would be of great benefit to millions of low-income families and seniors living on fixed incomes. It would also support tens of thousands of jobs related to American agriculture, many of which are located in smaller cities and towns that desperately need these jobs. More

PTAB: DCs Latest Unaccountable, Power Grabbing Government Board

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Because It Is Apparent DC
Doesn’t Care About This Definition

Government is always looking to expand its ability to lord over the private sector.

Congress has done far more than its part – passing all sorts of laws that have very little to do with the Constitution and its extraordinarily limited role for the federal government.

But Congress doing all that overreaching itself – eventually brought some angered scrutiny from We the People. Congress doesn’t care what we think, mind you – they just don’t want to hear it from us.

So about a century ago government began erecting myriad, unelected Executive Branch departments, agencies, commissions and boards. To unilaterally add those very many busy hands to the power grabbing government was doing.

But that too drew angered scrutiny from We the People. Because even though these very many departments, agencies commissions and boards aren’t elected – the President who oversees them is. And if it’s possible, the President likes hearing it from us even less than does Congress. More

Carried Interest: Let’s Preserve at Least Some of the Pro-Growth in the Tax Plan

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Let’s Treat It Like
We Know We Need It –
Which We Desperately Do

The old saw is: A fool and his money are soon parted.

Except when it comes to the government and its tax code. Then – its the smart people that get royally job-ed.

The Left is so eminently interested in everything being “fair.” Which is why they are mostly responsible for a current tax code – that takes nearly half of all federal income tax coin…from just 1% of the nation’s population.

1% of the population paying half of all income taxes is a “fair share” – in Bizarro World. The math doesn’t work here in Reality.

Another aspect of the Left’s War on Success – is their loathing of the way we currently tax carried interest. Shocker – the Left wants to raise the rates.

Which is a titanically stupid thing to do – if you want our nation to maintain any modicum of success. Which of course the Left does not.

Government ‘Business’ Endeavors Are Always Awful

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

On the Cutting Edge –
And It’s Us They’re Cutting

The old saw is “Those who can do – those who can teach.”

Meaning if you’re good at something – you do that something. And if you aren’t good at anything – you teach.

Which helps explain our ridiculously awful government primary and secondary schools – and our ridiculously awful colleges and universities.

We need a government permutation: “Those who can do – those who can’t regulate those who can.”

Meaning if you’re good at private sector things – you do private sector things. And if you aren’t good at private sector things – you go into government.

(And since government runs most primary and secondary schools – and funds many colleges and universities – the crossover nature of our two axioms is quite obvious.) More

Because Congress Has Accomplished So Much: A Mixed Martial Arts Hearing

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Yet Another Fabulously-Attended-by-Congressmen Congressional Hearing

Presidential candidate Donald Trump ran for two years on several key legislative components. The big three were Obamacare repeal, tax-cuts-and-code-reform and a monstrous, massive infrastructure bill.

Full disclosure: I think the latter idea – is absolutely terrible. The states with the roads in them – should themselves take care of the roads in them. I-95 runs north-south Maine-Florida. Why should citizens in the likes of Kansas and Alaska pay for any of it? This states-level approach – leaves The Feds spending zero dollars on infrastructure.

Congress’ majority Republicans had themselves for years and years championed Obamacare repeal. And for decades and decades championed tax-cuts-and-code-reform. And they have always been huge fans of spending hundreds of billions of dollars on infrastructure.

So all of these Trump agenda items – were right up their alley. More

Uber-Left Amazon Set to Get Uber-Cronyism – From Republicans

Our New Republican-Created, Government-Purchase Monopoly Robber Baron…?

We spent nigh the duration of the very awful Barack Obama Administration chronicling in-depth the in-depth cronyism they serially, unilaterally shoveled at the Silicon Valley.

That rampant corruption – was a primary reason the Donald Trump Administration was chosen to succeed the Barack Obama Administration. The Trump Administration – has set about undoing much of the Obama Administration’s Silicon Valley cronyism.

But as we’ve so often noted: Trump’s biggest mistake upon arriving in DC – was not making many, MANY more people leave DC. There are many Swamp Creature-holdover holes still to fill in the Executive Branch – which the Valley continues to exploit.

The Valley has also upped their efforts with the Legislative Branch. Most unfortunately, that Republican-led body is weak in (oh-so-many) spots – and amenable to the Valley’s crony overtures.

Monster online retailer (and increasingly just about everything else) Amazon (market cap: $540 billion) – is on the verge of striking huge crony gold.  More
