America First – Also Means Acting When Our Businesses Get Screwed Overseas

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

In This Instance – Americas First

Before he was Politician Donald Trump – he was Businessman-TV Star Donald Trump. All along the way (check out this “Oprah” hit from all the way back in 1988), Trump championed a Reality-based approach to actually free, fair trade. On which he eventually campaigned – as he ran for his new entry-level political position.

Trump’s trade approach – was antithetical to the way Washington, D.C. had long been doing trade. The DC warped definition of “free trade” was:

We would accommodate every other nation on the planet – by removing our government impediments to their goods and services coming here. Meanwhile, we’d do next to nothing to get their governments to return the favor.

Trump thought this was dumb. In no small part – because it’s dumb.

Trump proposed the weird notion that America’s government should first and foremost look out for – American companies and its people. More

What’s “Calexit,” you ask? That is an already-surprisingly-strong move on the part of California – to secede from the United States. A development anyone in the remaining forty-nine who likes less government and winning presidential elections – should wholeheartedly and resoundingly endorse.

California has become a cancer on the body America. When the tumor is volunteering to remove itself – you happily do everything you can to assist with the procedure. More

The Big Lebowski: New Bogus Russia Nonsense from Obama Deep State Holdovers

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Guilty

America ratified the Eighteenth Amendment to the Constitution – which banned alcoholic beverages – in January 1920. It would have been obscenely obnoxious – and an unbelievable governmental overreach – to have then begun arresting people for drinking in December 1919, and then working your way back through the calendar.

Because in Reality, you can’t punish people for deeds that were legal at the time they did them – just because you outlawed those things later.

But when the Donald Trump political phenomenon began, the Media-Left complex left Reality even further behind them than they already had. They saw a faint inkling of Reality still present in their rearview mirror – and put their government-subsidized Tesla and Chevy Volt pedals to the metal.

The Left’s chief anti-Trump Shibboleth – is “Russia.” Anyone even remotely connected to Trump who ever had anything to do with that nation – is guilty of heinous crimes. Because – “Russia.”

What crimes? That’s never actually articulated. Because in Reality – they aren’t actually guilty of any. But…”Russia.”

If they could tie him to Trump, they’d arrest The Dude Lebowski – because his drink of choice is a White Russian (which is also racist).

The media is spending 75% of their Trump time on “Russia.” Which is the #1 most important issue – for 6% of Americans. More

You Know an Idea is REALLY Good – When Government Has to Mandate You Do It

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

They Learn So Young

As the DC Democrat Party unilaterally worked to ram through Obamacare, there were roughly nine million red flags alerting us to the fact that it was in its entirety a terrible idea.

One of the biggest, reddest flags – was the individual mandate. Obamacare forced you – under penalty of an inexorably increasing fine – to purchase the product it was creating.

But wait – we were incessantly, repeatedly told that Obamacare would save the average family $2,500 per year. That is – well, would have been in their Candy Land fantasy – a tremendous discount.

We were repeatedly, incessantly told that health insurance was a product millions of additional people desperately wanted to purchase – but didn’t because they couldn’t afford it.

So riding to the rescue came DC Democrats – with Obamacare, and its fairy dust promises of lower prices.

But if Obamacare was such a great idea – if it would make insurance so much cheaper and better – why would it include a mandate that everyone purchase it? More

Solar Fannie Mae: Worse Than Subsidizing Fake Energy? Mandating We Buy It

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

May We Please FINALLY Learn SOMETHING?

Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis popularized the phrase “laboratories of democracy”: “(T)o describe how a ‘state may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.’”

Cities and towns also experiment with policy novelties – serving as even smaller laboratories. For ideas both good – and very, very bad. From what we’ve seen, urban localities are doing some really weird, very failed science.

For instance, Seattle, Washington doesn’t do math very well. Or history. Or the history of math. They imposed a $15-per-hour minimum wage. And how’d that go?: “(I)t reveals a new and disturbing channel by which minimum wages could hurt the very workers they’re created to help – reduced working hours. This is not about justifying the wealth of the rich, it’s about respecting the natural law of market forces.”

Ah yes – the natural law of market forces. No one on the planet respects it less than government. No one breaks it more.

Fighting mightily for the title of dumbest local lab – is South Miami, Florida: “(T)he South Miami City Commission will decide on July 12 when they vote on a ordinance that would require solar photovoltaic systems be installed on all newly constructed homes. Older homes would also be subjected to this requirement if more than 50 percent of its square footage is renovated.” More

Bottom-Up Cronyism – No Better Than Top-Down Cronyism

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Enough, Already

Government cutting special deals for special friends – is always obnoxious, obnoxiously bad policy. It takes a lot of money from innocent, unwitting citizens – and hands it to politically-connected cronies. It warps functioning marketplaces – when governments place their massive thumbs upon the scales to tilt the system.

We’ve just narrowly escaped the Barack Obama Presidential Administration – almost indubitably the biggest imposer of top-down federal cronyism in our nation’s history. Thankfully gone – their cronyism is not forgotten by lower-level government officials looking to continue the obnoxiousness.

One of the companies seeking to maximize this bottom-up cronyism – is Exelon Energy. They run nuclear plants in several states – and they are going state-government-to-state-government looking for crony bailouts. Looking to save themselves – at the expense of the many states’ taxpayers.

Illinois was the first state to cough up the crony dough. Illinois’ elected officials moved crony-quickly – so as to short-circuit any citizen attempts to oppose. More

Left and Right United Against Cronyism – Save for a Few Wobbly Republicans

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Feeling Lonely, Wobbly Republican?

Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist made an excellent recommendation as to how best to oppose the old school crony government pork known as “earmarks” – which was district-specific spending, benefiting that district’s Congressman.

Getting riled up at that Congressman was a waste of time. He was the vote-buying beneficiary of the government money. What you needed to do was rile up the constituents of the House’s other 434 members – to get angry at their respective representatives for wasting their tax money on pork…that didn’t even benefit them.

This all-other-hands-on-deck approach – needs to be used against all things cronyism. Get everyone besides the cronies – all along the ideological spectrum – to gang up on the cronies. Politics makes strange bedfellows – often because it is very necessary.

The massive crony nightmare mess currently being attempted by New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo – is a great place to test drive this approach. More

The Power to (Over)Tax – Is the Power to Destroy

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Well, That’s Totally Different

The late Supreme Court Chief Justice (amongst many other impressive gigs) John Marshall rightly noted “The power to tax – is the power to destroy.” The power to OverTax, of course – will destroy even more.

We have in our nation established a very anti-human nature approach to government. We punish things of which we claim to want more – and reward things of which we claim to want less.

We tax income generated by work – and give money to people who don’t work. Human nature empirically tells us that we will get less of the former – and more of the latter. Why do something to get something – when you get something for doing nothing?

Human nature works on a sliding scale. The more you tax work and reward non-work, the higher up the human nature industriousness ladder you go – to pull people climbing upward off and into the Do Nothing pit.

And of course, the harder and more complex the work is – and the higher the investment costs required to do it – the more likely being taxed more will drive people out of that work. More

The Left: Shoveling Much Manure, Desperately Seeking Ponies

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

The Left –
Reporting for Manure Duty

There’s an old joke. About a little boy standing in the entrance of a huge barn – clearly filled to the rafters with manure. The boy has a shovel in hand – and loudly proclaims “There has to be a pony in here somewhere.”

The Left – is this little boy. And their little boy search – is trying desperately to locate dirt on their political enemies.

One such manure-fest – is being thrown at now-President Donald Trump.

We’ve wasted nearly a year on totally-evidence-free charges that Trump colluded with the Russians to get elected. Loads and loads of excrement have been flung – trying to unearth that pony. To zero avail.

That narrative (finally) collapsing, the Left shifted their hopes to Trump-fired Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) head James Comey. Their formal mortal enemy, the Left desperately grasped and clung to Comey – as he intimated that Trump had allegedly, stealthily, back-handedly obstructed justice.

Then Comey testified before Congress. And did so much damage to both of the Left’s ridiculous narratives – the Russia collusion and the attending obstruction of justice – that even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was forced to acknowledge it “came apart.”

Will these serial, profound defeats stop the Left? Of course not. Stay tuned – they’ll shortly come up with something even more ludicrous. Their pony-free pony search will continue. More

Free Market Energy Vs The Big Government Cronyism and Subsidies Merry-Go-Round

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Decrepit, Depressing – and Expensive

How we power our nation should be, like everything else, as free market as possible. May the most effective, cheapest energy sources win.

No government intervention or imposition. That means no subsidies or regulations playing favorites – picking losers at the expense of winners and warping and distorting how we choose.

Because market forces lead us to make the best choices. And mean that what is today a great energy source – may not be so great tomorrow. As we improve each, some may no longer be as viable. In which case – things like this happen:

Three Mile Island Nuclear Plant to Close in 2019: “The (Pennsylvania) plant…has lost $300 million over the past five years because of the decline in energy prices, Chicago-based Exelon said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.”

God bless fracking: “Nuclear power plants have been hammered by the natural gas boom that has slashed electricity prices in competitive markets.” This is how it’s supposed to go. More
