Why Is it Only ‘Science’ When It Grows Government?

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Smart Man

We see it over and over again. And have seen it for decades. It is why I remain steadfastly opposed to any government “research.” Because the government only funds research that feeds and fosters itself. And when the science isn’t compliant – government ignores it, or warps it to its will.

Government is an organism. Just like any other organism, its first priority is self-preservation. Its second – is to grow. So when you give the federal government $4 trillion a year to spend, it will spend a lot of it funding its own preservation and growth. No matter how much damage it does to everyone and everything else.

Government cherry-picks the research it funds. The Feds have spent tens (hundreds?) of billions of dollars on global warming – oops, I mean climate change studies. I would bet there hasn’t been ten grand total spent on scientists who are man-made climate change skeptics. Because proving there’s no problem – means there’s no justification for government to grow.

But from 1998 until as recently as 2014, the global temperature has flat-lined. No warming. Virtually no change at all. Did a government-funded study find this empirical fact? No. In fact, the government has spent a lot of money, time and effort trying to suppress this information – and attacking those who cite it.

Because according to government – it ain’t science if it doesn’t grow government. More

New York State Is Perfecting Its Taxpayer Repellent

Legal Emigration

Government at all levels has been for a century-plus grossly over-involved in, well, everything. For this particular exercise, let us look at the energy sector. Behold the myth that is “green energy.”

“Green energy” is – nigh totally – neither green, nor energy. Most sources – wind, solar, ethanol and bio-,… – expend as much or more traditional energy to produce as they eventually provide. And their production and utilization are in many instances much more anti-planet than demonized traditional sources.

And unlike traditional sources, “green energy” requires government money. Lots and LOTS of government money. Subsidies to the tune of tens (hundreds?) of billions of dollars over the last few decades.

Which violates several of life’s maxims.

1) If something is a good idea – no government money is necessary. No one needs to subsidize ice cream.

2) Government money doesn’t help – it warps. Our decades of tilting at ethanol windmills has done virtually nothing to improve either ethanol or the energy sector. It has dramatically increased the price we pay at the gas pump – and the price of food all over the planet. As we bizarrely burn food for fuel. More

If You’re Looking to Rent a Leftist Attorney General…

The New York
Attorney General Logo

…New York Democrat Eric Schneiderman is on the market – and open for business. And you don’t even need to contact him – he’ll contact you.

Schneiderman is worse than pay-to-play. He is pay-to-play – in reverse. He will launch insufferable Leftist Quixote campaigns first – and ask for campaign cash later.

Schneiderman and some of his co-awful cohorts wasted a year-plus attempting to eviscerate the First Amendment rights of oil company ExxonMobil.

Democratic Attorneys General to Police Climate Change Dissent: “A coalition of Democratic attorneys general…announced Tuesday an unprecedented campaign to pursue companies that challenge the catastrophic climate change narrative, raising concerns over free speech and the use of state authority to punish political foes.

“Standing beside former Vice President Al Gore, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the state officials are committed to ‘working together on key climate-related initiatives,’ including queries into whether fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil have committed fraud by deceiving the public and shareholders about the impact of man-made carbon dioxide emissions….

“These dozens-of-Democrat attempts to circumvent the guaranteed right to speak freely – have gone absolutely nowhere. (Save for the millions of dollars Exxon has had to waste fending off these frauds.)”

I am quite sure Schneiderman completely buys into the global warming climate change myth – and tilted at this particular windmill in full blinkered belief. More

Bill Murray Reports: It’s Farm Bill Time. Again.

Let’s End the Perpetual Re-Run

One of our greater American films – is Groundhog Day. Where Bill Murray’s character – television weatherman Phil – is caught in a time loop. He awakens every day – to the exact same day. He is stuck on February 2nd – Groundhog Day.

Once past the bewilderment stage, Phil understandably, quickly grows increasingly perturbed with his predicament. On Day Whatever of his cursed closed circle, Phil goes on air with a dispirited, sardonic “It’s Groundhog Day. Again.”

I felt exactly like Phil – when I came across this:

Groups Are Coming Up with New Policy Ideas for a New Farm Bill: “While much of America is focused on the November presidential election, farm groups are already talking about the next farm bill. Early policy ideas are already being brainstormed by agriculture groups….This new bill can’t come soon enough for both the cotton and dairy industries. ”

It’s Farm Bill time. Again.

Wait a minute. We passed the last one – in 2014. It lasts for five years – until 2019. What gives? More

Hey New York – You Do Realize It’s GLOBAL Warming, Right?

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

A Tiny Drop in a HUGE Bucket

You remember “global warming,” yes? It was for multiple decades the dubious cataclysmic Earth wrecker – always on the cusp of raining death and destruction down upon us all.

Except Reality intervened. Global temperatures flatlined in 1998 – and as of three years ago hadn’t risen since. So the purveyors of “global warming” fully shifted to the name “climate change” – and went into ever-greater spin mode.

World’s Top Climate Scientists Told to ‘Cover Up’ the Fact that the Earth’s Temperature Hasn’t Risen for the Last 15 Years: “(L)eaked documents seen by the Associated Press, yesterday revealed deep concerns among politicians about a lack of global warming over the past few years.”

Wait a minute. We’ve been told – by politicians and so many others – that rising temperatures would be the end of the planet. So we have a decade-and-a-half of temperatures not rising – and the politicians aren’t thrilled?

They instead have “deep concerns” – and demand scientists cover up the good news. Which further bolsters what we already knew. That politicians aren’t so much interested in saving the world – as they are in controlling it.

And the problem (and the irony) always is: The more control government has – the worse things get for the planet. And everyone on it. More

The Government is Eviscerating Private Property Rights. Again

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

‘For the Public Good’

The Fifth Amendment of the Constitution reads, in part, as follows:

“No person shall…be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.”

Meaning if you own property – government can’t arbitrarily take it from you. In whole or in part.

Sadly, taking without compensation is something at which the government is becoming expert:

“Most property rights scholars would probably tell you that property is sort of the redheaded stepchild of constitutional law….(T)he (Supreme) Court says something like, ‘The Government could hardly go on if to some extent the values incident to property couldn’t be diminished without paying for it every time the law changed.’”

Get that? For nearly a century, the Supreme Court has for the most part pretended the Fifth Amendment doesn’t exist – as per it being an impediment to government regulating without compensation property out of private existence.

Which, of course, government has been exceedingly happy to do. More

Democrats Now Want to Preemptively Punish Climate Change Pre-Crimes

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Yet Another Excellent Prediction

In the Tom Cruise-starring science-fiction-future-flick “Minority Report”: “A special police unit is able to arrest murderers before they commit their crimes.” These were called “Pre-Crimes.”

Objection, Your Honor: Assuming facts not yet in evidence.

But Democrats aren’t letting that stop them. Donkeys and Hollywood have for decades been hyper-intertwined. And the Donkeys are now taking this harmonic convergence more than a mite too far.

To wit: We have the nigh endless Democrat persecution of petroleum company Exxon Mobil. Which began as an assault on the First Amendment.

“Standing beside former Vice President Al Gore, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the state officials are committed to ‘working together on key climate-related initiatives,’ including queries into whether fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil have committed fraud by deceiving the public and shareholders about the impact of man-made carbon dioxide emissions.” More
