What Obama Just Did Exemplifies Why His Economy Continues to Stink On Ice

The President – Yet Again Selectively Spreading the Love Around

Uncertainty. Perhaps the worst of words for private sector investors. The free market is filled to the brim with it. One rarely if ever knows how things will transpire. You measure twice – if not three, four or five times. And then you cut your deal. Then you cross your fingers – and hope for the best.

And with all of that – eight out ten businesses fail. Ouch.

But that’s the nature of the private sector. If you want a successful, vibrant economy – you have to acknowledge and accept this uncertainty as a part of the deal.

What you don’t need – is all sorts of additional, superfluous, ridiculous uncertainty piled on top of you by government.

And the Barack Obama Administration is Team Uncertainty.

What you want from government is an orderly process for new laws. Thankfully, the Constitution sets that up. Elected members of the Legislative Branch debate bills. We the People can lobby members of Congress to redress our grievances. Making the bills better – or, failing that, making Congress better by electing new members.

The Obama Administration has bypassed all of this. And has instead governed by a massive flood of regulatory fiats – issued by unelected bureaucrats. Whom we can’t lobby. Of whom we can’t rid ourselves in the next election. (In fact, we can’t get rid of them just about ever.) More

Presidential Also-Ran Al Gore: Yet Another Non-Scientist Lecturing Us About Science

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Can’t You Feel the
Coin Rolling In?

And the dimmest shall lead us….

Anyone notice that the lead snake oil salesmen for global warming climate change – The Greatest Scam on Earth – aren’t scientists? And as the evidence against The Big Lie continues to roll in and pile up – the pro-Lie scientists recede further into the background? Further ceding the field to a wide array of utterly non-science snake oilers?

The reason The Big Liars no longer call The Big Lie “global warming” – is because the globe all-but-stopped warming in 1998. Global temperatures have spent the last eighteen years doing…nothing. They’ve basically flatlined. And you know who says so? Scientists.

Which is why the Big Liars had to change tack – and change names. Born was “climate change.” Or, as Ann Coulter pointed out, what we used to call “weather.” Which allows these snake oilers to dismiss those pointing out the many lies contained within the Big Lie as “climate change deniers.” As if we’re denying weather. (Although, actually, for the last eighteen years the climate – on the global temperature main – hasn’t changed.)

When real science rises up against you, you are forced to increasingly rely on fake science. To wit: We have fraudulently started treating carbon dioxide (CO2) as a pollutant. Which is a little strange, seeing as how that’s what everything plant on the planet inhales (and, symbiotically, we exhale – how great is that?). Ironically, tree huggers want to severely restrict what trees need to live. To them I say: Don’t hate – respirate.

Who made the decision that opened that Big Lie CO2 floodgates? Not scientists (Heaven forfend). Seven lawyers in robes – in that hallowed hall of science, the Supreme Court.

In reaction to the mounting actual science in opposition to their Lie, the non-scientist Liars have only screeched louder and with greater frequency. Earlier this month a Leonardo DiCaprio video made the social media rounds. In which he declared (likely after landing in his gas-guzzling private jet [population – eight]) that anyone opposed to the Big Lie is “unfit for office.” Mr. DiCaprio, of course, isn’t a scientist. He’s an actor. More

The Al Sharpton of Power Companies Set to Get a New York State Bailout

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

We Have to Destroy the Economy
in Order to Save It

The Reverend Al Sharpton is famous. What he should be is notorious. He has many, many life lowlights. The one that pertains to our conversation here is the 2014 New York Times report that he was at that time $4.5 million short on his federal and New York state taxes.

That’s a lot. And it brings to mind many thoughts regarding the Reverend. None of which, for normal people, is: What this guy really deserves is a government bailout check.

Yet that is what New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo is on the verge of doing for Exelon Generation – the Al Sharpton of power companies.

Exalon was just on the wrong end of a U.S. tax court decision – and has been ordered to pay the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) $1.45 billion in back taxes, penalties, and interest.

What is Exelon? A New York state power company. A very successful New York state power company. Net profits in 2015? $2.2 billion. And they’ve been solidly profitable for years. $1.72 billion in 2013, $1.16 billion in 2012. And $2.7 billion each year all the way back in 2008 and 2009.

So they should have no problem paying their (back) taxes. We should all have a problem with New York’s state government writing them a check – for possibly up to $7 billion. More

New York’s Chief Partisan Persecutor: Democrat Attorney General Eric Schneiderman

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

In New York, Justice’s Left Eye is Open

If you want justice, equal protection before the law and prosecutorial humility – New York Democrat Attorney General Eric Schneiderman ain’t your guy.

If you want partisan, selective persecution and ideological witch hunts – you can not do any better than AG Schneiderman.

The Clinton Foundation is located on Avenue of the Americas in New York City – the heart of AG Schneiderman’s purview. It is a multi-multi-million-dollar den of corruption. Time after time billion dollar promises have been made – but never kept. In 2013, only 10% of the money the Foundation spent went to, you know, actual charity. They spent more on office supplies. And, of course, rent – palatial offices on Avenue of the Americas ain’t cheap.

All the while, the Foundation was a global, nigh-limitless cash withdrawal system – taking hundreds of millions of dollars from governments with business before then-United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

It is a chief reason why Mrs. Clinton never used her government email address and its monitored, recorded system – so no one could track the confluence of State Department and Clinton Foundation action.

Is AG Schneiderman at all interested in looking into any of this? Of course not. Because Hillary Clinton is a fellow Democrat. And she’s now the Party’s presidential nominee. Can’t foul that up with enforcement of the law. Ask James Comey. More

Too Much Dishonesty, WAY Too Late, on the Dakota Access Pipeline

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

So Too Environmentalists
(Please Pardon the Redundancy)

The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) will deliver us oil. From the fracking-unleashed shale fields of North Dakota to Illinois – from whence it will make its energy-providing, prices-lowering way into our economy.

As with all things – especially oil-related – lots of governments had to grant lots of permission to the DAPL folks before any pipe could be laid. And every pertinent government – the four states’ through which the line will be laid, and the Feds – have all granted that permission.

Get that? The anti-fuel, anti-capitalism, environmentalist radical Barack Obama Administration – that dragged its feet for years on and then denied the Keystone Pipeline – approved the DAPL.

So what’s the problem? Believe it or not, there are environmentalist radicals even more radical than the Obama Administration. And they object.

Behold environmentalist radical trial lawyers EarthJustice – and their client, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (SRST).

The problem is – well, a problem is – the time to object was during the five different governments’ respective, lengthy pipeline approval processes. Which, in fact, the Tribe did. More

The Road to Hell is Paved with Regulations. And Taxes. Take Note, New York

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Shovel Ready Jobs

We are nigh all familiar with the maxim: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

I also like it in its original form – in the original French: “The saying is thought to have originated with Saint Bernard of Clairvaux who wrote (c. 1150), ‘L’enfer est plein de bonnes volontés ou désirs.’ ‘Hell is full of good wishes or desires.’”

Because it shows that not only do good intentions lay your road to Hell – they ensure you get there. Where you and your intentions can plot and plan for all eternity.

And nigh everyone gets this – save for Leftists. And unfortunately for the rest of us, their attempts at good intentions – via government – drag all of us down to Hell right along with them.

Which is ironic. Because what Utopian Leftists are attempting – is to create a Heaven on Earth. Oops.

Good intentions lead to Hell – because this ain’t Heaven. And here on Earth, Reality always, inexorably inserts itself – and disrupts and destroys even the best of intentions.

Exhibit A: New York state.

“‘The state’s Public Service Commission (PSC) earlier Monday passed a new set of standards that by 2030 is supposed to ensure that half of New York’s energy needs are met by renewable methods, ranging from solar and wind, as well as hydro and nuclear power.’” More

Have Environmental Radicals Led the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe to Commit Perjury?

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

It Still Ain’t Good

Committing perjury is a serious offense.

Ok, sadly, I do acknowledge that this assertion is less and less true in what is now post-legal America.

Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is well on the way to zero consequence for multiple instances (and multiple other crimes).

And, sadly, this laxity is not just a recent phenomenon. Clinton’s husband, then-President Bill, committed perjury (and multiple other crimes) – and went on to finish his two terms. Twenty years ago.

But we still like to at least keep up appearances. That we have a legal system, that it works – and that adhering to it matters.

So we say things like “committing perjury is a serious offense.” And hope it is occasionally true. More

New York State Is Perfecting Its Taxpayer Repellent

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Legal Emigration

Government at all levels has been for a century-plus grossly over-involved in, well, everything. For this particular exercise, let us look at the energy sector. Behold the myth that is “green energy.”

“Green energy” is – nigh totally – neither green, nor energy. Most sources – wind, solar, ethanol and bio-,… – expend as much or more traditional energy to produce as they eventually provide. And their production and utilization are in many instances much more anti-planet than demonized traditional sources.

And unlike traditional sources, “green energy” requires government money. Lots and LOTS of government money. Subsidies to the tune of tens (hundreds?) of billions of dollars over the last few decades.

Which violates several of life’s maxims.

1) If something is a good idea – no government money is necessary. No one needs to subsidize ice cream.

2) Government money doesn’t help – it warps. Our decades of tilting at ethanol windmills has done virtually nothing to improve either ethanol or the energy sector. It has dramatically increased the price we pay at the gas pump – and the price of food all over the planet. As we bizarrely burn food for fuel. More

If You’re Looking to Rent a Leftist Attorney General…

The New York
Attorney General Logo

…New York Democrat Eric Schneiderman is on the market – and open for business. And you don’t even need to contact him – he’ll contact you.

Schneiderman is worse than pay-to-play. He is pay-to-play – in reverse. He will launch insufferable Leftist Quixote campaigns first – and ask for campaign cash later.

Schneiderman and some of his co-awful cohorts wasted a year-plus attempting to eviscerate the First Amendment rights of oil company ExxonMobil.

Democratic Attorneys General to Police Climate Change Dissent: “A coalition of Democratic attorneys general…announced Tuesday an unprecedented campaign to pursue companies that challenge the catastrophic climate change narrative, raising concerns over free speech and the use of state authority to punish political foes.

“Standing beside former Vice President Al Gore, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the state officials are committed to ‘working together on key climate-related initiatives,’ including queries into whether fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil have committed fraud by deceiving the public and shareholders about the impact of man-made carbon dioxide emissions….

“These dozens-of-Democrat attempts to circumvent the guaranteed right to speak freely – have gone absolutely nowhere. (Save for the millions of dollars Exxon has had to waste fending off these frauds.)”

I am quite sure Schneiderman completely buys into the global warming climate change myth – and tilted at this particular windmill in full blinkered belief. More

Hey New York – You Do Realize It’s GLOBAL Warming, Right?

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

A Tiny Drop in a HUGE Bucket

You remember “global warming,” yes? It was for multiple decades the dubious cataclysmic Earth wrecker – always on the cusp of raining death and destruction down upon us all.

Except Reality intervened. Global temperatures flatlined in 1998 – and as of three years ago hadn’t risen since. So the purveyors of “global warming” fully shifted to the name “climate change” – and went into ever-greater spin mode.

World’s Top Climate Scientists Told to ‘Cover Up’ the Fact that the Earth’s Temperature Hasn’t Risen for the Last 15 Years: “(L)eaked documents seen by the Associated Press, yesterday revealed deep concerns among politicians about a lack of global warming over the past few years.”

Wait a minute. We’ve been told – by politicians and so many others – that rising temperatures would be the end of the planet. So we have a decade-and-a-half of temperatures not rising – and the politicians aren’t thrilled?

They instead have “deep concerns” – and demand scientists cover up the good news. Which further bolsters what we already knew. That politicians aren’t so much interested in saving the world – as they are in controlling it.

And the problem (and the irony) always is: The more control government has – the worse things get for the planet. And everyone on it. More
