SpaceX: Government Isn’t Much Better at Contracting Out Than at Doing It Themselves

Government ‘Success’ –
SpaceX-Contractor-Style

We less government types want the government doing as little as conceivably possible.

Fortunately for us – so did the Founding Fathers. And they drafted and ratified the Constitution to do exactly that – limit the federal government’s activities to a few, specifically proscribed things.

And the Founders strenuously recommended that state and local governments not do very much either. Because they knew a fundamental truth of life:

Government stinks at doing everything. Because…human nature.

Behold again my Wallet Rule:

If you go out on a Friday night with your wallet – and you go out the following Friday night with my wallet – on which Friday night are you going to have more fun?

Obviously, you’re going to have a whole lot more fun with my wallet – because you don’t care what my wallet looks like at the end of the evening. More

Get Hammered – and Sick-eled

National Football League (NFL) Commissioner Roger Goodell – has had a bit of a bad decade.

(So bad – that his ex-television-news-host wife was caught with a fake Twitter account Tweeting in his defense.)

Goodell began this time frame under-reacting to legitimate problems like the New England Patriots’ Spygate.

Goodell then woefully mishandled the break of the chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) concussion story.

Goodell then tried to play catchup – by ridiculously overreacting to non-stories like the Patriots’ Deflategate.

While under-reacting to woeful off-the-field player behavior. Epitomized by his under-punishment of then-Baltimore Raven running back Ray Rice for beating his fiancé – only to then be embarrassed when video of one violent incident became public.

Then came the player protests of the National Anthem, the United States flag and the nation.

It all started during last year’s preseason – as a one-man-gang by then-San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Who – rather than standing respectfully during the Anthem – kneeled.   Kaepernick’s protest quickly spread – amongst his teammates, and throughout the league.

About all of which Goodell did…nothing. More

Government and Crony Contractors – You’d Better Shop Around

Perhaps We Could Look Elsewhere

President Donald Trump inherited a whole lot of awful Barack Obama policy. Unfortunately, much of that awful policy has since Trump’s inauguration continued to lurch forward. Due to the awfulness of Deep State bureaucrats – and inherent bureaucratic inertia.

In many instances – Trump has put a stop to it. In many other instances, unfortunately, he has not.

Thanks to Obama, cronyism has become all-but-engrained in the DC DNA. They were the Crony Administration.

So not only is the government doing way too many awful things – they are paying Leftist cronies to do way too much of it.

There is even residual cronyism – in some things I actually like the government doing. Like privatizing space exploration. More

Elon Musk: The Welfare King’s Latest Failures – and Government Cronyism Cover Ups

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

A New Administration –
A New Reckoning

Elon Musk is the welfare God-King. He is an all-time champion of government money reception – $5 billion and counting.

And as you know, Ladies and Gentlemen: Government money isn’t government money – until they have first taken it from us. It’s actually our money.

And with that government bureaucrat investment (of our money) – comes government bureaucrat protection of their investment.

If Musk messes up – it looks really bad for the bureaucrats who have given him, again, FIVE BILLION DOLLARS of OUR money.

So the bureaucrats will spend hundreds of millions of dollars (or more) – of OUR money – so as to cover up Musk’s mess ups.

Because his mess ups – are their mess ups. And may lead to the people footing the crony bill – that, again, is us – asking why the heck Musk received FIVE BILLION DOLLARS of our money. More

Because Congress Has Accomplished So Much: A Mixed Martial Arts Hearing

Yet Another Fabulously-Attended-by-Congressmen Congressional Hearing

Presidential candidate Donald Trump ran for two years on several key legislative components. The big three were Obamacare repeal, tax-cuts-and-code-reform and a monstrous, massive infrastructure bill.

Full disclosure: I think the latter idea – is absolutely terrible. The states with the roads in them – should themselves take care of the roads in them. I-95 runs north-south Maine-Florida. Why should citizens in the likes of Kansas and Alaska pay for any of it? This states-level approach – leaves The Feds spending zero dollars on infrastructure.

Congress’ majority Republicans had themselves for years and years championed Obamacare repeal. And for decades and decades championed tax-cuts-and-code-reform. And they have always been huge fans of spending hundreds of billions of dollars on infrastructure.

So all of these Trump agenda items – were right up their alley. More

John Oliver: Multi-Millionaire, Big Government, Big Business ‘Champion of the Little Guy’

HBO Calls It ‘Last Week Tonight’ – Because ‘Cashing In’ Was Already Taken

HBO’s alleged comedian-host John Oliver (I’ve never found him to be particularly amusing) has the same problem a lot of wealthy Leftists have.

God has blessed Oliver (whether Oliver realizes it or not) – Oliver is wealthy. He makes a whole lot of money – in a field where maybe one in a thousand can even buy groceries plying their wares. Making it in entertainment is catching lightening in a bottle – twice.

Oliver makes huge coin – for a less-than-imperative service. He isn’t curing cancer. Nothing wrong with it – but he’s a court jester. Making as much as he does for what he does – leaves a lot of people in his position feeling almost like they’re cheating at life.

Many thus feel the need to crusade for causes – to make up for the incredible good fortune they enjoy. And when you aren’t a signally deep or practiced thinker – that oft means falling for the shallow facility of Leftism.

Oliver has fallen hard. And there’s no diving in his thought pool. More

The Swamp Strikes Back: Some of Trump’s White House Guests Are Not His Friends

Musk’s Companies – Your Coin

“They that sow the wind – shall reap the whirlwind.”  From the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Hosea, it means that if you choose to do X, expect to get X – good and hard.

Now-President Donald Trump ran for the gig promising to “Drain the Swamp.”  Which was him sowing what he would do should he win – clean up the fetid and festering sewer that is Washington, D.C.  We the People – liked the idea.  And elected the political novice to do exactly that.

We less-government-minded political observers knew the whirlwind to be reaped.  DC is a $4-trillion-a-year cronyism-infested nightmare cesspool – an insult to swamps everywhere.  Institutional, Establishment DC would not take attempts at its decontamination lying down. More

The Elon Musk Myth Looks to Contaminate Texas

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

Texans Should Tell Musk to Stand Down and Go Away

The Myth of Elon Musk is that of daring entrepreneur.  An avant garde, cutting edge businessman who sees a little bit further around the curve of the Earth – to get a glimpse of the Next Big Thing before the rest of us are able see it.

The Reality of Elon Musk is that of enormous government money welfare hog.  Perhaps the single largest crony capitalist of all to dig in to Washington, D.C.’s $4-trillion-per-year trough (not to mention his multiple-state-level favoritisms).  By far his greatest success – is his copious extraction of government money and favors.

Government has thus far cut checks to Musk to the tune of $5 billion.  This isn’t Musk original thinking – it is decades-old, tried-and-true welfarism.  Musk shouldn’t be lauded and applauded – he should be ridiculed and dismissed.

One of Musk’s fake companies getting billions in real government money is Tesla Motors.  Tesla produces massively-subsidized electric cars which – even with the federal coin – cost way too much and aren’t purchased by anyone outside of uber-wealthy preening elites:

“(Tesla’s) first model, the Roadster, costing over $100,000 per vehicle, sold only 2,400 actual cars in 31 countries from 2006 until production ended in 2012, despite extensive federal subsidies for electric car purchases.  Its new model, a full-size luxury sedan named the Model S, is doing better, costing about half as much as the Roadster. Tesla sold about 25,000 of these worldwide in 2013….The products are heavily subsidized, by both federal and state tax credits of up to $20,000+ to consumers, and zero emissions credits totaling tens of millions of dollars to the company.”

So much government coin – for so little in sales.  And now the Musk contagion is looking to infest Texas.  Musk wants to insert his Tesla Faux-Motors into the Lone Star State’s retail dealership market.  And is demanding even more cronyism to do it. More

Business ‘Savant’ Andrew Ross Sorkin Gets Elon Musk Very, Very Wrong

Seton Motley | Less Government | LessGovernment.org

At This Point, the Government Might as Well Just Let Musk Print it Himself

We warned that this was happening.

In case you don’t already know – this is Andrew Ross Sorkin: “Andrew Ross Sorkin is a columnist for The New York Times and the founder and editor-at-large of DealBook, an online daily financial report published by The Times that he started in 2001. In addition, Mr. Sorkin is an assistant editor of business and finance news, helping guide and shape the paper’s coverage.  Mr. Sorkin is also a co-anchor of Squawk Box, CNBC’s signature morning program.”

So Sorkin is considered a financial guru – a savant of all things business.  So how is he so very, very wrong about government teat specialist Elon Musk?: “Donald Trump: Please think about calling Elon Musk….Mr. Musk…(is) the real-life Tony Stark behind Tesla, the electric car company; SolarCity, the solar power provider; and SpaceX, the rocket company….”

Actually, Elon Musk isn’t the Tony Stark of anything.  And the only person behind Tesla and Solar City is a government bureaucrat – writing Musk yet another government check.

So far, Musk has received FIVE BILLION DOLLARS in government money – mostly for his “green energy” business fallacies.  He is arguably the world’s largest welfare recipient. More

Good Work Dodge
If You Can Get It

Conventional wisdom is that Elon Musk is a genius. That he’s an avant-garde innovator – taking entrepreneurial risks way out on the edge. Here is but a sample of the paean news coverage – media members genuflecting so much that their pants are now baggy.

Of course, Bobby Heenan said “If you’re poor and you do something stupid, you’re nuts. If you’re rich and do something stupid, you’re eccentric.” The fine line between stupid and genius – is often a fat bank account.

But what if the fat bank account – isn’t your coin? Or a dramatically huge amount of it isn’t your coin?
