Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis popularized the phrase “laboratories of democracy”: “(T)o describe how a ‘state may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.’”

Cities and towns also experiment with policy novelties – serving as even smaller laboratories. For ideas both good – and very, very bad. From what we’ve seen, urban localities are doing some really weird, very failed science.

For instance, Seattle, Washington doesn’t do math very well. Or history. Or the history of math. They imposed a $15-per-hour minimum wage. And how’d that go?: “(I)t reveals a new and disturbing channel by which minimum wages could hurt the very workers they’re created to help – reduced working hours. This is not about justifying the wealth of the rich, it’s about respecting the natural law of market forces.”

Ah yes – the natural law of market forces. No one on the planet respects it less than government. No one breaks it more.

Fighting mightily for the title of dumbest local lab – is South Miami, Florida: “(T)he South Miami City Commission will decide on July 12 when they vote on a ordinance that would require solar photovoltaic systems be installed on all newly constructed homes. Older homes would also be subjected to this requirement if more than 50 percent of its square footage is renovated.” More

Pleasant Company They’re Keeping

One of the very many things that has been hammered home in the President Donald Trump era – is that if the media wants to make a non-story a story, they certainly can. At least for them and theirs.

No matter how ridiculous and fact-free the tale. It can be patently obvious that the “A” they are selling is actually “Not A” – but that matters not. The media floods the zone with it, and that’s all we get.

Trump-Russia collusion, anyone? We’re now a year in to the Media-Democrat complex screeching incessantly about Trump collaborating with Vladimir Putin’s Russia to steal November’s election.

CNN is absolutely obsessed. More than half of all MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow’s segments between February 20 and March 31 – were directly about it (and that count excludes stories that mentioned it, but weren’t directly on it). It is just about all you can get from anyone in the legacy Jurassic Press.

There remains zero evidence thereof. All along the way, all sorts of Democrats and Leftists have continually, begrudgingly admitted that there is zero evidence thereof. But that’s the storyline to which the Media-Left wishes to adhere – so we’re stuck with it. More

A Long, Storied Tradition

The Washington Post is a legacy, old school fake news outlet. Aside from the New York Times, no newspaper carries more national clout.

Largely because of how much they forty-plus years ago made of a third-rate burglary by a Republican presidential campaign on its way to winning forty-nine states. (Had Republicans not broken into the Democrats’ Watergate headquarters, they’d have won, what…forty-three states?)

There were about a half dozen Barack Obama Administration scandals that were each exponentially worse than Watergate – about which the Washington Post couldn’t have cared less. Worse, the Post provided all sorts of cover-up “coverage” of these monstrosities – routinely, incessantly defending the indefensible.

Always Even More Than Meets the Eye

Leftism is such an easy soundbite sell. It’s a gaggle of five-second one-liners that seem to make perfect sense – right up until someone applies actual thought to any of them.

One of the all-time favorites is – “Tax the rich!” (I’m fairly sure the exclamation point is always mandatory.) They’re rich, they’re evil – they should pay MORE!

But let’s now apply some actual thought to their fortune cookie wisdom.

The dreaded One Percent – pay nearly half of all federal income taxes. So they are paying “their fair share” – and the fair shares of roughly 150 million other Americans.

Then there’s all sorts of additional taxes wealthy people pay (that most of the 99% do not). Most of these taxes tax money – that has already been taxed as income (which I find to be particularly, additionally obnoxious).

Most of these taxes – attack the money that makes our free market system possible. Income taxes are awful and pernicious – but it is the taxes on big coin pools that are really an assault on our system. More

Remember the Barack Obama Administration’s Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scandal? The media really wish you wouldn’t, which is why they never really reported on it while it occurred. And, in many ways, the IRS scandal continued well past its initial exposition date.

Well, That’s Totally Different

The late Supreme Court Chief Justice (amongst many other impressive gigs) John Marshall rightly noted “The power to tax – is the power to destroy.” The power to OverTax, of course – will destroy even more.

We have in our nation established a very anti-human nature approach to government. We punish things of which we claim to want more – and reward things of which we claim to want less.

We tax income generated by work – and give money to people who don’t work. Human nature empirically tells us that we will get less of the former – and more of the latter. Why do something to get something – when you get something for doing nothing?

Human nature works on a sliding scale. The more you tax work and reward non-work, the higher up the human nature industriousness ladder you go – to pull people climbing upward off and into the Do Nothing pit.

And of course, the harder and more complex the work is – and the higher the investment costs required to do it – the more likely being taxed more will drive people out of that work. More

There’s an old joke. About a little boy standing in the entrance of a huge barn – clearly filled to the rafters with manure. The boy has a shovel in hand – and loudly proclaims “There has to be a pony in here somewhere.”

The Left – is this little boy. And their little boy search – is trying desperately to locate dirt on their political enemies.

One such manure-fest – is being thrown at now-President Donald Trump.

We’ve wasted nearly a year on totally-evidence-free charges that Trump colluded with the Russians to get elected. Loads and loads of excrement have been flung – trying to unearth that pony. To zero avail.

That narrative (finally) collapsing, the Left shifted their hopes to Trump-fired Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) head James Comey. Their formal mortal enemy, the Left desperately grasped and clung to Comey – as he intimated that Trump had allegedly, stealthily, back-handedly obstructed justice.

Then Comey testified before Congress. And did so much damage to both of the Left’s ridiculous narratives – the Russia collusion and the attending obstruction of justice – that even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews was forced to acknowledge it “came apart.”

Will these serial, profound defeats stop the Left? Of course not. Stay tuned – they’ll shortly come up with something even more ludicrous. Their pony-free pony search will continue. More

The Left’s Stamp of ‘Approval’

The Left doesn’t like acquiescing to the will of We the People. They like – to degree that they can pull it off – to PRETEND to acquiesce to the will of We the People.

The Left’s agenda has never really resonated with us. So they’ve looked for as many ways as possible to circumvent us – and our Constitutional process of self-governance.

Here’s how things are supposed to work in Washington, D.C.:

The officials we elect to the Legislative Branch – legislate. They draft and pass laws. On which We the People can exert influence – via our First Amendment right “to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

The President (whom we also elect) then signs the laws – and then his/her Executive Branch executes them. The Judicial Branch – our court system – adjudicates legal disputes between parties.

Via this process did the Founding Fathers render it quite difficult to grow government. Which has always irked the Left – so the Left started end-running this process. More

We less government types want less government – for no shortage of reasons. To name but a few:

Of course the Constitution mandates it.

In no small part because government is awful at everything it does – so you want it doing as little as possible.

And the more government does – the more susceptible it is to being bribed into applying its might in the service of outside cronies. Favoring them – and hounding their competitors.

Which violates the Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment – and it’s Equal Protection Clause: “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” More
