EPA Administrator Pruitt Needs to Stop Needing the Left to Like Him

They’re Just Not That Into You

During the awful epoch that was the Barack Obama Administration, Scott Pruitt was a fearless free market champion.

Pruitt was in 2010 elected Oklahoma’s Attorney General. And in that capacity he spent a lot of his time fending off the Obama Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a whip and a chair.

As an Attorney General, Pruitt’s whip and chair – were lawsuits. Lots and lots of lawsuits. Fourteen, all told. Do not be mistaken – Pruitt was not overly litigious. The Obama EPA was just that obnoxiously overreaching.

The Obama EPA was actually even more obnoxiously overreaching than that. I’m guessing Pruitt was limited to just the fourteen – by a lack of sufficient resources.

Pruitt was doing God’s work – tending His freedom fields.

So of course the Left loathed him.

Then happened one the most miraculous miracles in the history of miraculous miracles – Donald Trump won the presidency. And immediately began enacting his Undo-the-Obama-Administration-Agenda agenda. More

EPA Secretary Pruitt: The Eco-Nuts Will Never, Never Like You

Remember Who Your Actual Friends Are – and the Fact That You’re Not a Radical Leftist

In the great Aaron Sorkin television creation “West Wing,” very accomplished fake president Jed Bartlet goes in for a brief bit of therapy. During which the following exchange occurs:

Bartlet: “It’s not good for a person to keep setting goals?”

Psychologist: “It probably is. But it’s tricky for somebody who is still trying to get his father to stop hitting him….”

Bartlet: “I’m not trying to get my father to like me.”

Psychologist: “Good. Because it’s never, never going to happen.”

It is of this conversation that I thought when I read of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Secretary Scott Pruitt’s possible way-overkill cleanup plan for a Saint Louis, Missouri Superfund site. More

A Chance for Congress to Kill Some Cronyism

They Don’t Even Do These
Deals in the Backroom Anymore

President-elect Donald Trump ran in part against the business-as-usual cronyism that has for decades been rampant in Washington, D.C. His pledge to “Drain the Swamp” resoundingly resonated – and helped propel him to the presidency.

Congress has been a chronic, consistent swamp filler. Now, headed into the Trump presidency, Congress has an opportunity to reverse course and start draining. They absolutely should avail themselves.

The prospective cronyism in question revolves around the West Lake Landfill in Bridgetown, Missouri (located near Saint Louis’ Lambert Airport). A limestone quarry in the 1930s, it during World War II and into the 1960s became a dumping ground for, amongst other things, processed uranium.

Thankfully, a 2015 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study concluded that the site actually poses no health risk. Nevertheless, the Agency had in 1990 declared West Lake a Superfund site designated for cleanup – so a cleanup we will have.

But this is government – and government moves…s l o w l y. The EPA didn’t get around to hiring anyone to do the work until…2015. At which point the speed of the private sector would have kicked in. The cleanup company retained would have had the gig finished by the end of this year. One year – and done. No fuss – no more muss.

Great news, right? Well, not for the Teamsters Union. The Teamsters haven’t unionized the landfill cleanup company – so they had no hand in the job. So they began methodically working to kill the cleanup. Because they are, first and foremost, environmentalists concerned about the Earth. I kid. They want the deal cancelled – and redone involving them. More

‘Put It On Their Tab’ – It’s Time to Cut Off Washington, D.C.

Everything in Washington, D.C. established to do X – ends up doing X, Y, Z, and triplets of every letter in the alphabet. This anti-federalism is fueled by several basic precepts. Of course DC wants as much power as it can grab. The more power it wields – the more it can lord over us and the more favors it can dole out. And the more coin it can spend – and the more coin it can justify taking from us.

But the states bear a lot of the culpability too. The more the states off-load onto the Feds – the less for which they themselves are responsible. Politically and financially. The more the Feds do what states should be doing – the more coin the states have for other silliness.

And here is a vitally important component: States can’t print money and have to at least pretend to balance their budgets. The Feds are not constrained by either of those two tethers to Reality. (Hello, $4.5 trillion in phony Quantitative Easing coin and $19 trillion in debt.)

Want yet another example of the DC alphabet growing? Behold the United States Army Corps of Engineers: “A 23,000-employee federal agency that works on a wide range of infrastructure projects for military and civilian purposes. It’s an honorable history in helping build everything from the Washington Monument to the Panama Canal. But like many federal agencies it is prone to mission creep, pork-barrel projects, and outrageous cost overruns.”

Here comes the creep: “On a recent trip to Missouri, it now looks as if Corps may be expanding into the cleanup of hazardous waste sites. Since the country has hundreds of these, this is a worrisome precedent. The West Lake Landfill, near St. Louis’s Lambert International Airport, has been a local eyesore since 1974 but has posed no discernible danger to local public health and safety despite some radiological material left over the 1940s Manhattan Project being present….(A)fter 25 years, (the Feds) have completely dropped the ball and now there has been no cleanup.” More
